IAN HEALY
Former Australian Cricket Great, Small Business Owner

I’ve got car washing businesses around Brisbane, upmarket car wash cafes. The one thing that I’ve learnt from here is that we don’t plan, we do not plan anywhere near enough. We plan to go on holidays and we plan how to build our house and build out structures but we don’t really plan as to where we want our business to be in 5 then 10 years so that we’ve got a set goal to get to.

That’s the main thing I’ve gotten out of the camp, and then once you have that the ability to move to customer satisfaction, but it’s so time consuming or we feel it’s so time consuming. I would definitely recommend anyone’s attendance at this camp but also that the tools that you get to take away will be invaluable to our business. I look forward to being here again.

MEL SOLTAN
Soltan Pepper Restaurant
Winner of Excellence in Food and Beverage at the 2008 Business Excellence Awards!

Prior to attending the business camp we were just working in our business, hoping people would “just come” to our restaurant. The camp helped us to realise that we could control how many people came - and when! This was a complete mindset change for us, and we haven’t stopped since.

Within a month of returning we had comment cards on our tables and started our database and our birthday club. Just 12 months later, we have over 1000 guests on our database, and mail about 165 birthday cards each month inviting guests to come back.

We give encouragement awards to local sporting clubs, thank you offers for guests who refer a friend to us, and we now regularly make time to sit down together to brainstorm new offers and events to keep people interested in coming back to Soltan Pepper. Thank you for changing our thoughts from, “just get the work done” to “let’s build a sellable business”!

SHERIDAN SCOTT

I found it not only informative but it has given me the inspiration to move forward and make some changes in my own business that can only be for the better. I also found I made some valuable friends and look forward to catching up with them on a regular basis. The guest speakers provided me with an insight on other ways of doing things.

As for John – well the guy is amazing. To keep us all on track, on time and most of all eager for more was just fantastic. His dedication was evident. Finally I would personally like to thank you for your support, encouragement and advice. I am sure some businesses don’t realise how valuable an informed accountant can be – but rest assured I do.

PETER HASSOS
Hassos & Associates Pty Ltd, Chartered Accountant

I first went to the 2008 business camp with a client and was very impressed. My client absolutely loved it and learnt plenty, so in 2009 I returned with 10 of my business clients. It has given me a framework to help increase my client’s profits and improve their lifestyle. I thenreturned in 2010 with 5 of my clients and I again plan to return in 2011 withas many clients as possible.

The Global Business Camps have become part our business. So much so, that when we are meeting new prospective clients we advise them of the annual business camps and consequently are able to differentiate ourselves from other accountants. They are usually quite surprised and intrigued that an accountant would attend such an event with their clients. It has definitely helped us bring new clients on. Truly a must go event.

BARRY BULL

I have been involved with Australian Business Camps for the past two years, having professionally presented at the last two annual conferences as a speaker/trainer. Key management from our family business has also attended these forums. I am hugely impressed with the quality of the content presented at the Australian Business Camps conferences and the subsequent follow up to the business training programs.

Delegates are not only exposed to efficient accounting and administration due diligence, but also participate in highly beneficial networking sessions and keynote presentations from other successful business entrepreneurs. I recommend this three day event to all small to medium business operators. Its an affordable but essential survival kit to combat today´s challenging business conditions.

DAVID DOLMAN

2009 was my first business camp. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole presentation has been very professional. Whilst I’m a CPA I’ve still learned a lot about business growth, business strategies and I can highly recommend this course to anybody else and in fact I’ve invested in the DVD set to take back and share with my team.

Thanks to my accountants, Marsh Tincknell, for inviting me along here. Good luck to anyone else that thinks they should come along. I believe any small business should come along to one of these camps – I can highly recommend it.

MATT RYAN

I run a plastic welding business that services the mining industry. To come along to the business camp I had my arm fairly hardly twisted by my accountant but he got me here and I couldn’t be more wrapped. I’ve learnt a great deal about managing my business, managing my people. Had some fantastic inspiring talks with some visitors and celebrities and could recommend the camp to anyone. I’ll certainly be back and passing the knowledge onto my staff.

RAELENE PATTERSON

I run a really busy business in Melbourne so it was hard to get the time to come to the 2009 camp, but it’s fantastic, well worth it. I’ve got lots to do when I get back, lots to incorporate, lots of ideas. I’m drawing up check lists already to go back to staff and incorporate everything.

Can’t wait to get back now and encourage everyone else as much as I feel. Way worth coming, I’ll come back again. I’ll have lots more ideas the second time around. Really looking forward to next time and incorporating all the ideas from this camp. It’s been great.

RANDALL SMITH & TRICIA VELTHUIZEN
Train To Succeed

“Since we started in business in 2006, we have spent money on all sorts of programs designed to help us do business faster, better, stronger. But nothing ever quite helped us feel that we were in control of the business until 2009, when we decided to invest in a different sort of program: a 3 day experience, the Global Business Camp.

For 3 days, we worked on our business, not in our business. For 3 days, we sat side by side with our accountant and talked honestly about our strengths, our weaknesses and planned for the future. For 3 days, we learnt about business ideas and principles that excited us, stretched us and gave us confidence to build our business.

But 3 days are just 3 days. The principles imparted by the Global Business Camp are for the life of our business. We’ve changed everything about how we do business: recruiting & retaining staff, recruiting & retaining customers, raising prices, tracking our figures. And we’ve been rewarded! Business is strong and the ride is fun!

So, in 2010, we took back 3 of our team for the opportunity to experience the Global Business Camp for themselves. And now they are excited, they’ve made changes, they’re embracing the principles. We’ll be back in 2011 ready to learn more, do more and share that experience with other members of our team. If you want to make your business work for you, join us at the 2011 Global Business Camp!

Do what we do: book now and pay off your registration! We look forward to seeing you there!”

New Shop, New Staff, Let’s Go! excerpt

I would have paid ten times the amount it cost to attend the Global Business Camp, it was that amazing. It’s the best thing we have ever done for our business.

Without a doubt, the return we have seen in our business, on the investment we made to attend the three-day Camp, has far exceeded the cost of the course.

I had wanted to go to the Camp for some time. So, when we moved our shop to the main thoroughfare and employed new staff, the time was right.

Attending the Camp has made such a difference to our business. We work more efficiently, everything flows better and we have implemented policies and procedures that have made life so much easier.

It’s great for any business, especially small business and the information was invaluable.

The great thing about the Camp is that there were so many different industries represented from builders and doctors to architects and retail shops like us. This Camp applies to any business and anyone who wants to improve in business would be silly not to attend.

The Camp and the business development services have helped us to know what to look for in improving our business. Ultimately this has ensured our future success.

Thanks for the Global Business (Boot) Camp held in Melbourne. I loved it.

I knew there are many things we needed to improve in our business and that is exactly what your camp provided.

For the three days I had information over load (in a good way) and from the three days I selected the best bits for our organisation to focus on in the next 12 months. I know the small things matter and making lots of small changes are easier to implement.

In hindsight I think it would have been better to attend the camp with all my key staff so they are all on the same page as I am.

The next camp I’ll bring the team and in the mean time I’ll keep your folder somewhere I can see it to remind me to do SOMETHING small and it will end up with big results!

It was extremely well run, interesting and fast moving. My eyes glaze over when figures are mentiond (not my field), but I would certainly come again. I now have about 12 months (at least) of work to generate loads more business from our existing customer base, improve systems we have in place and generate better working conditions for all employees. I 'm excited and can't wait to get started!
